Summary: We need your help to continue the work of the International Marxist-Humanist Organization.
“It never fails that at momentous world historic turning points it is very difficult to tell the difference between two types of twilight—whether one is first plunging into utter darkness or whether one has reached the end of a long night and is just at the moment before the dawn of a new day. In either case the challenge… becomes a compulsion too big for new beginnings, for a philosophy that would try to answer the question ‘Where to Begin’?”
—Raya Dunayevskaya, 1987
These words continue to resonate today, given that we face a descent into reaction and outright barbarism hardly imaginable a generation ago at that same time that a creative response to it has arisen in the effort to revive the idea of socialism by a new generation of activists and thinkers. We still cannot say for sure whether or not this marks the dawn of a new day, but we clearly must reach for one by developing a philosophy of liberation that it adequate for our times. This is what the International Marxist-Humanist Organization has been devoted to since it was founded in 2009, and this has been the reason for the numerous publications, public forums, study groups, and organizational growth we have produced since then.
As we begin a new year, we need your help to continue this work. We have plans for a number of new publications and activities over the next year—foremost among them a booklet on Alternatives to Capitalism that will contain a revised translation and discussion of Marx’s Critique of the Gotha Program. We cannot achieve this without your help. We have access to no funding other than what our members and readers can provide. We look forward to a new year of further collaboration with all our readers.
